NCGAS now has resource allocation specifically for workshop support for clients!
February 14 2018
What does this entail?
We now have resources availabe for use by genomics and field station biologists to use! Specifically we have a Jetstream allocation with a large number (~100) of individual VMs slots available at a time. This means:
- You can make ONE virtual machine image (or we can help you) with all the needed software, data, etc. and have your participants sign in or use webfacing software (Rstudio for instance).
- Streamlining the initial part of workshops, as everyone automatically starts with the same, correct set up.
- After the workshop, the base images remain public, allowing participants to use them later to brush up or process their own data!
- VMs are available the next time the workshop is run and can be modified easily for updates.
We set up an image with all the needed software for a workshop walking users through processing data to make it compliant with Ecological Metadata Language. This workshop leveraged RStudio and OpenRefine to process the data - each participant could simply follow a link to their own RStudio and OpenRefine portals (no Jetstream or XSEDE sign in necessary!).
How do you get access?
Go here and follow the steps. This link will walk you through getting an XSEDE username and sending us the important information for adding you to our allocation. Then an NCGAS staff member will respond within 24-48 hours!
